How the structure of a DNA molecule is like a spiral staircase? Which parts of the staircase represent the various parts of the molecule?

The DNA molecule has a double-helix structure, which is similar to the structure of a spiral staircase. The sugar-phosphate backbones of the two polynucleotide chains of DNA are like the two outside edges, or sides, of the spiral staircase. The bonded nitrogen bases are like the steps.
